@navodthenomad: Here’s views from our hike at Green Hills County Park 9300 Deponie Dr Raleigh, NC 27614 Turns out, Green Hills is another landfill park that opened to the public in 2010! This park has multiple hiking trails -1.4 mile paved Pedestrian Loop -the 0.7 mile Top of the Hill Trail -2 miles of natural hiking and biking trails We went for the 1.4 mile hike up the hill and back for the views 🔥 If you’ve been following along, we’ve already been to Mount Trashmore in both Virginia Beach and in Iowa so it was no brainer to add this one to the list. Here’s how the 3 parks stack up 🏔️ Green Hills, Raleigh -one of the only landfill parks in the country where methane gas build up from the old trash is piped to a nearby facility to power their processes/equipment -the hill rises about 190 ft -paved and natural trails, mountain biking skills area, picnic shelters, playgrounds, restrooms, and open play space 🏔️ Mount Trashmore, Virginia Beach -gas is just safely vented through three hollow flagpoles -the hill is only about 60 ft high -picnic shelters, playgrounds, four volleyball courts, two fishing lakes, a 24,000 sq ft skate park, and vending machines 🏔️ Mount Trashmore, Cedar Rapids -gas is captured and burned off with a flare, no energy use - the tallest of the three, at around 948 ft -walking and biking trails, a recreation building with restrooms, hydration station, bike fix-it stations, and gathering space I wonder why the park here in North Carolina opted out of using the “Mount Trashmore” name 🤔…lol my guess is because this is the south and if they named it “Mount Trashmore”, either no one would come or the place would involuntarily turn back into a landfill by year end lol Check it out next time you’re in North Carolina!
