I know it's a parallel example, but I kinda lost hope in everyone with the Amber Heard trial. I watched her describe her violent rape on stand, and the world mocked her, as her rapist laughed at her.

Oh heck yeah. Patriarchy devalues minimizes motherhood and birth journey. They only care about fertilization ( their part ). The “important “ part.

Men are just implicitly believed because they’re men!!! My sister went through an ugly custody battle and her ex waltzed into a pediatrician office, announced he had full custody (he did not!!), was given the kids records and got her locked out of their accounts! She had to circle back with actual court documents to prove he was the one lying.

It's extremely terrifying when the majority of the evidence of a case against a mother is the word of the father.

Starting to notice that most interactions with men have a feeling of “being managed” and me going along with that

Patriarchy is all over this case - the pressure of being a perfect mom, the need to mask when things are going wrong, the lack of belief when you are asking for help, the minimizing of postpartum health and mental health, the fact that this case was brought to trial, the fact that men are the most trusted experts, the questioning of a mothers love, the way the female prosecutors are playing up gender stereotypes, the holes in real research in postpartum mental health, even the bloody DSM-5. I’m not saying Lindsay is guilty or innocent, that’s for the jury. And, this case and the cometary Ari d this case brings up so much rage.

We have a complete lack of postpartum care in our culture. Plying women with psychotropics once they inevitably come undone as a result is not “care” - it’s putting a bandaid on a wound that could have been prevented. Traditional medicine like Ayurveda, TCM, Mexican Traditional Medicine, and many cultures understand how crucial it is to give women specific care to rejuvenate and stabilize their bodies and minds in the 6-8 weeks pp. Not doing so can create deep physical and mental imbalance. And many, many other countries give extensive paid family leave for 1-2 years. There are people saying, “She had so much support!” and it’s like saying because a person in a shelter gets one hot meal a day while others go hungry on the streets, the sheltered person is highly resourced. We live in an abusive system for pp women and SO many women don’t even realize what they should have and what their biology calls for. Childbirth and postpartum are underworld journeys that require Village care and eldering to guide women into their deepening power. But that power is so great, without this wisdom, women will break.

I think you said this so well! I think a lot of women see a pattern that we recognize and are reacting to viscerally.

All focus on the mother, what was the father doing to help her while she was in crisis? You’re right about the pattern

The men are running the show (judge, defense attorney, and husband/father) while two women are props (prosecutors) and one woman is the scapegoat.

Exactly. I recognized patterns of what I’ve dealt with for 13 years. So little is expected of men and they are praised for doing the bare minimum - women are just “crazy” when we are upset about being burnt out or speaking up for how unfair the expectations of us are.

I watched a lot of the trial. The police botched the investigation by not treating her husband as a suspect. The prosecution’s evidence is “ what Patrick said”. It’s outrageous
