don't know:Letting go is easy to say and hard to do. heart still gets heavy every time you see their name, hear their song, or pass by the place you used to go together, you’re not weak. You’re not pathetic. You’re human.
Moving on doesn’t come with a deadline. People will tell you “it’s been months, you should be over it by now” or “just forget them.” But grief doesn’t work like a switch. When you loved someone, you didn’t just lose a person. You lost the version of your future that had them in it. You lost the little routines, the inside jokes, the comfort of being known. Of course it hurts. Of course it’s taking time.
The truth is, not being able to move on doesn’t mean you failed. It means you cared deeply. It means you gave real love, and real love leaves marks. The problem starts when we turn that pain against ourselves. We replay every mistake, we stalk their socials at 2am, we wonder if we weren’t enough. We keep the door cracked open because closing it feels like saying the love never mattered.
But here’s something I want you to remember: holding on doesn’t bring them back, and it doesn’t heal you either. It keeps you stuck in a room where the only person living is the version of you that was with them. Outside that room, life is still happening. Your friends are still laughing. The sun is still rising. You are still here, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.
Moving on is not forgetting. You don’t have to erase them to be free. Moving on is choosing yourself every day, even in small ways. It’s getting out of bed even when it feels pointless. It’s deleting one photo, then another. It’s answering “I’m okay” and actually trying to mean it someday. It’s allowing yourself to miss them without begging them to come back.
Some days you’ll feel progress. Other days, a random smell will set you back to day one. That’s normal. Healing isn’t linear. Don’t punish yourself for bad days. Talk to someone. Write the letter you’ll never send. Cry in the shower. Go for a walk. Fill your time with things that remind you who you are without them, not to distract yourself, but to remember yourself.
