I saw the video of a bear being released into the wild and everyone screaming and shooting into the air and the bear just running away scared. It broke my heart 😭

Im a vet student, and have been a volunteer at a rehab clinic for wildlife for two years, and we HAVE to do it to every animal, we can’t pet or even talk to them, me cant let orphans cuddle us or get used to our scent, with some orphans we raise them and when they’re old enough you have to make them fear you and hate you. It’s heartbreaking but it’s the best for them

They do that because the bear is stressed being transported and if you release it quietly it’ll charge at you right away immediately after getting out, if you scare it, it’ll run without looking back

Short term stress is better for the animals. They have to learn that human are dangerous. They recover fine and it’s better for them.

it's the same for all animal rehabilitation.. we're loud so they run away, they need to be scared of humans so they don't put themselves in dangerous situations again. 🤷

They rehabilitated the captive orca in Free Willy and taught him how to hunt/ survive on his own in the wild and the last part of his training for his caretakers was to ignore him when he came to say hello during health check ups (he was in the ocean at this point) :((. He never found a pod to join and Orca’s social animals.. He ended up dying a few weeks later :((((

TO be fair, I think they also do this so that the bear doesnt turn around to attack them 😭 I've seen bear releases where the bear immediately turns around after the gate opens and gets reaaal hostile

I scare the yard rabbits when they get too close to me. I love them so much and know they're safe in my yard, but not everyone in my neighborhood is as nice as me... if they went up to the wrong person because I made them comfortable, I could never forgive myself 🥲 Friends from a distance forever 💖

As bad as it seems animals SHOULD be scared of us, close contact with humans regularly isn’t good for them and isn’t safe for us either
