Oprah’s generation also completely unplugged when they left the office. Today there is no such thing as being off the clock unless you set the boundary yourself.

I am a millenial and I love the work/life balance. You only pay me for hours you schedule me for. I am out the damn door, no extra work unless I am being PAID to do so.

We don’t own capital in the companies we work for, there for I will never break my back, work beyond my job description or work unpaid extra hours for a company that will probably fire me when I hit my highest earning bracket to give it to someone they can pay less.

The “there was no work life balance” isn’t true because it was inherent. Technology wasn’t what it is now. Work couldn’t follow them home. Things were slower. Now there’s 24/7 access.

Oprah's Generation ALSO had retirement packages, generous benefits packages, mentorship & internship programs, PTO, training & development and real career advancement opportunities, company sponsored outings & happy hours, Christmas Parties and bonuses.... Now we get told to be grateful JUST to have the job.... 😭😭😭😭

It’s not really a generational thing it’s more of a USA thing. Australia, New Zealand and Europe have had the concept of work life balance for years.

As a Gen X er who has worked in corporate for 35 years. Things have really changed. Corporate companies are now all about “more for less” . Much more work, many less benefits and the old adage that hard work will get you to the top doesn’t apply anymore. Once you’re burnt out they will retrench you and replace you in a flash. One has to manage your own balance to go the distance these days. Also with emails and teams on mobile devices off is never an option.

Millennial here … please don’t over work yourselves for these billionaires. It’s not worth it. And the more of you do this they will be forced to treat people like humans who has a life OUTSIDE of work

Oprah also grew up in a time where you could live off a “shitty” salary because the cost of living was lower. What’s the point if you aren’t being paid enough to live. That’s called subsidizing your employer. It’s not worth it. Their flabbergasted that we don’t except the workplace exploitation.

They had a reason to slave away at a job, they had pensions and great insurance not to mention an affordable living wage. Our generation does not have this so why should we sacrifice for a job that doesn’t care about us

Gen Jones here - I’m the fucking idiot for giving my blood sweat and tears to the corporations - time away from my family- only to be let go after 21 years. Good for this generation for setting boundaries.
