The prospect of glazing larger works is always a bit terrifying. I used to main dunk pieces in one go, the glaze covering the entire vessel, the issue is, as the pots get larger removing them and letting the glaze drain off neatly becomes a challenge. Even all the weight inside the internal form can make it incredibly difficult to take out, then flip over, the tongs struggling and myself stressing. So, instead this is how I glaze larger pots nowadays. I tend to coat all of my larger pieces in two goes, first either the inside or out, (depending on the shape of the pot), then the following day I coat whatever portion I previously left bare. It adds time of course, but you have to have in-between layers for the porous clay body to dry out, otherwise it you attempt to coat the second layer straight away, the water saturated stoneware won’t draw enough water in and therefore you’ll end up with a thin layer of glaze instead of the thicker one might need, I do anyway. The final step is fettling clean the surface of glaze across the whole pot. This, as long as the previous two steps have been done well, really isn’t very difficult or time-consuming, I just try not to rush or remove too much glaze in one go, slow and steady is key for pots like this.
