@hub.haus: ✨ Norway gave every 5-year-old an iPad. Ten years later, they reversed it. Dr. Kaitlyn Regehr, author of Smartphone Nation, points to Norway as a real-world experiment most parents have never heard of. ~ cr: howdowemanage #learning #readingexperience #fyp #childcare #teachers
I think the iPads and the Chromebook can be used as a great tool if the teacher is motivated, but teachers are still worked and burnt out that it’s easy just to let the kids do whatever they want and it act as a babysitter. I’m a music teacher, and I use the Chromebook in a class a lot because we have some special programs that are specifically designed to keep the kids interactive and playing their instruments. But I can see how an English teacher would be sending assignments not acting with the kids and letting them do the simple program and then start goofing off. An iPad is a tool, just like paper and pencil as a tool.

Technology is not a good way to learn the basics. Thats why younger generations are not smarter than the previous generation for the first time ever.

As old fashioned as it may appear the 3 R's have been and will always be the way forward. The parents have a duty to their children to read a story every evening to them. No excuses, find 15 minutes from scrolling to engage with them to make a strong bond and to encourage them into learning. Tech is good but at the right time in their development. An iPad or tablet is not a child minding tool for the parents.

It's amazing to me that they needed 10 years of data to figure it out when most people with a little bit of common sense could have told you that beforehand.

It only shows that, when given a distraction tool for children, parent rely on it. Actually, standards don’t have to drop if the technology is incorporated in healthy and logical ways like using the iPad to take pictures or read picture books rather than touch games. Just my opinion - I’m a former early years teacher from the UK and a mum

If you give kids iPads without guiding them. Instructions. Restrictions. Enforcement of those restrictions. Monitor them. Etc. What do you think will happen? Ipads are no different from TV, toys and gaming consoles. Most kids would get hooked on them if they are given unlimited access.

It wasn’t the technology. It was the inflexibility of the scholastic system to adapt to the technology. Going back is never the answer.
