@nealkshah: There is one word hospice workers hear again and again as a person nears the end, and it stays with them: "mom." Dr. Christopher Kerr, who studied more than 1,000 dying patients at Hospice Buffalo, found that end-of-life dreams and visions are nearly universal, feel vivid and real, and usually bring deep comfort, and among the faces people reach for, a mother appears strikingly often, even in patients in their 90s whose mothers died decades ago. One explanation is that the oldest parts of the brain fade last, so the mind reaches back to its earliest source of safety and love. For families, this understanding changes everything. If your loved one begins calling for their mother or reaching toward someone you cannot see, they are likely not confused but gently transitioning. The kindest response is not to correct them but to reassure, saying something like "I'm so glad she's here with you." And if you are the one at the bedside, know that you are doing sacred work. Follow for more on caregiving and end of life, and share this so someone else won't face this moment unprepared. #Hospice #Caregiving

I wonder what applies to those who didn’t have a bond with their birth mothers or a motherly figure. The lone wolves 🥺

There’s one person I know for a fact that I will not be calling out for and that will be my mom.

Or maybe it’s a transition to the after life with our deceased family members and our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

I’ve been a hospice nurse for over 14 years… people seeing and talking to mom/dad, pets that passed, and children who passed before them- all beautiful to see and hear. Working as a hospice nurse has helped me be unafraid of my own death one day. ♥️

My mom was doing alot of reaching up and moving her mouth 3 days before she died. Mostly I couldn't understand. But she did say, loud and clear, "Benji, Benji, come here"! What is really cool, she was 92 with dementia and hadn't remembered that dogs name in years!

My Mom was seeing her Dad (she was a daddy’s girl & didn’t like her Mom), we was also reaching her hands up and I’d ask her what she was doing, she’d say “I’m picking peaches” ❤️I met her where she was at and although it was quietly breaking me, knowing her time was nearing… I’m so grateful that God made it possible for me to be there to help care for her during this time.

My father passed when I was 19. And as he was taking his final few breaths he asked “why is mom here?” He also said he saw her with white horses 🤍

I honestly believe those transitioning are welcomed by their loved ones. Just my opinion.
