Cody Rae Haevischer of Surrey, British Columbia, is serving six concurrent life sentences for his role as a primary shooter in the notorious 2007 “Surrey Six” gangland slayings. On October 19, 2007, Haevischer and his accomplices entered a Balmoral Tower penthouse to kill rival drug dealer Corey Lal over an unpaid $100,000 gang “tax.” They forced six people to the floor, covered their heads and fatally shot them execution-style. The victims included Corey Lal, Michael Lal, Eddie Narong and Ryan Bartolomeo, along with innocent bystanders Chris Mohan, a 22-year-old university student, and Ed Schellenberg, a 55-year-old fireplace repairman. Haevischer was convicted of six counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole eligibility for 25 years. On August 27, 2026, a judge rejected Haevischer’s application to stay his convictions. He also received a concurrent two-year sentence for contempt of court after repeatedly refusing to answer Crown questions during cross-examination.
