@sophiekietzmann: I wish someone had explained this to me sooner because I genuinely thought getting paid more just meant becoming a better photographer. Obviously your work matters, but commercial photography is a business, and there’s a huge difference between showing up with your camera for three hours and being responsible for an entire campaign!!! Go figure… Scope, usage, production, creative direction, crew, deliverables, responsibility… all of that matters. So if you’re trying to get to those bigger budgets, don’t only ask yourself how you can take better pictures.
