Curiously. The way someone watches something familiar. Then she said

Curiously. The way someone watches something familiar. Then she said "you are on Levothyroxine aren't you." I turned around. She was maybe 65. Calm eyes. Direct. She said "I am sorry. That was forward. I was a pharmacist for 30 years. I retired 2 years ago. I recognize the cart. I have seen it a thousand times." I said yes. 6 years. She said "can I tell you the one thing I wished I could have told every woman I handed that prescription to for 30 years? Because I was not allowed to say it behind the counter. But I am not behind the counter anymore." I said please. She said "that pill is inactive. Every woman who picked it up believed she was picking up her thyroid hormone. She was not.
