After thirty years of separation, Arwen and Aragorn met again in Lothlórien, where Arwen reciprocated Aragorn's love. On the hill of Cerin Amroth, they plighted their troth, or exchanged promises, with Arwen choosing a mortal fate so she could remain with Aragorn in Middle-earth. This decision, however, meant she would eventually part from her kin and relinquish her place in the Undying Lands, a choice not easily made by one of her lineage. While the War of the Ring threatened Middle-earth, Arwen remained steadfast in her commitment to Aragorn. As he went to war, Arwen wove a banner for him, a royal standard that would proclaim his claim to the throne of Gondor. She made this banner in secret and sent it to him with her brothers, Elladan and Elrohir, and the Dúnedain, who joined Aragorn on his dangerous path through the Paths of the Dead. The banner, once unfurled at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, displayed the emblem of Elendil in mithril, gems, and gold, heralding Aragorn's rightful place as King and boosting the morale of the armies of the West. Following Sauron's defeat and Aragorn’s coronation, Arwen traveled to Minas Tirith, where she and Aragorn were wed, fulfilling the ancient hope of a renewed alliance between Elves and Men. As Queen, Arwen lived with Aragorn in the kingdom of Gondor, and they had a son, Eldarion, along with several unnamed daughters. Aragorn’s eventual passing in Fourth Age 120 left Arwen bereaved; having chosen mortality, she could no longer return to her kin in Valinor. She journeyed alone to Lothlórien, where she ultimately lay down and passed away at Cerin Amroth, the place where she had pledged herself to Aragorn.
