I’ve been asking myself an important question about our government and our justice system: Why does it sometimes seem so difficult to hold high-ranking government officials accountable when they face serious allegations or legal cases? I am not against our government, and I am not against President Bongbong Marcos. I recognize the sacrifices and efforts being made for our country’s development. My concern is about the implementation of our laws and the effectiveness of our justice system. I have three questions: First: Harry Roque. Why has it been so difficult to locate and hold him accountable in connection with the cases and allegations he is facing? And why does it sometimes appear that people facing serious legal issues can continue speaking publicly while authorities struggle to enforce the law? Second: Vice President Sara Duterte. There have been serious controversies surrounding her, including the impeachment proceedings and allegations concerning the use of public funds. There have also been questions about statements she allegedly made concerning the President. My question is simple: If there are legal grounds and sufficient evidence, why does accountability seem to take so long? Third: Senator Bato dela Rosa. There have also been questions surrounding his legal situation and whether authorities can effectively enforce the law when a powerful or well-connected public official is involved. Is our country too large to find people who are wanted? Is our law-enforcement system lacking resources? Or are there people protecting individuals who are facing legal proceedings? These are genuine questions—not accusations. I believe that no one should be above the law, regardless of political position, wealth, connections, or influence. If our justice system is strong, then the law should be applied fairly to everyone. I hope our government can answer these questions honestly and strengthen our institutions for the good of the Philippines. The rule of law should not depend on who you are.
