@musicmindlab: 🎹 Hallelujah — Intermediate Piano Tutorial 📜 A little history: Leonard Cohen released Hallelujah in 1984. Over time, countless interpretations transformed it into one of the most recognizable and emotionally powerful songs of the modern era. 🎹 The technique: In this intermediate version, the left hand does most of the travelling, while the right hand carries a relatively simple melody. We’ll use several accompaniment shapes we’ve already worked on in other MusicMind Lab left-hand tutorials: 5th + octave, extensions reaching the 10th, and the familiar 3rd–5th–octave structure. The first goal is simple: learn and memorize the left hand by itself. Once those positions and movements feel automatic, adding the melody becomes much easier because the right hand no longer has to compete with a left hand that is still searching for notes. 🧠 From a neuroscience perspective: When one hand performs the more complex movement, practicing it separately first helps your brain build a reliable motor map. Repeated chord shapes and interval patterns become larger movement “chunks,” reducing cognitive load. Once the left hand enters procedural memory, your attention is freed to shape the melody, timing and expression. Master the movement. Let the left hand become automatic. Then let the melody sing. #Hallelujah #LeonardCohen #PianoTutorial #PianoLesson #LearnPiano
