On top of that, for about a year now, he has been struggling very, very intensely with a midlife crisis and with getting older. I can’t shake the feeling that something about this whole situation is deeply unusual. I cannot fully explain it, and I do not want to present anything as fact that I cannot prove. But sometimes I have the feeling that something spiritual could be connected to this woman and to what is happening right now – almost as if there were something dark about her, something connected to the devil. It is not just a feeling I have myself. The man I have known and loved for 23 years, my husband and my best friend, suddenly seems so different – almost as if something inside him has completely changed. I don’t know what is happening right now. I don’t know whether there really is something spiritual behind all of this, but I cannot ignore this feeling that there is something deeply uncharacteristic of him about the entire situation. And despite everything, deep in my heart, I still believe that our story has not been completely written yet.
