@paul_mckenzie05814: On August 24, 2026, Philippine Navy and Philippine Coast Guard vessels, together with ships from the United States Navy and Royal Australian Navy, conducted the 19th Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MMCA) in the West Philippine Sea. Leading the Philippine contingent was the BRP Diego Silang (FFG-7) of the Philippine Navy, operating alongside the Philippine Coast Guard’s BRP Teresa Magbanua (MRRV-9701), the USS Santa Barbara (LCS-32) of the United States Navy, and HMAS Supply (A 195), the Royal Australian Navy’s fleet replenishment vessel. The Philippine Air Force also joined the activity, deploying FA-50 Fighting Eagles to participate in the maritime exercises. The BRP Diego Silang likewise operated its AW109E Power naval helicopter, providing additional air support and maritime surveillance capabilities. Despite challenging weather conditions, the participating forces pressed ahead with a series of maritime drills and exercises designed to enhance interoperability, coordination, and operational readiness among the four participating navies and maritime forces. As the exercises unfolded, vessels from the People’s Liberation Army Navy and China Coast Guard were also observed monitoring the activity from the vicinity. The 19th MMCA once again demonstrated the growing level of cooperation among the Philippines, United States, and Australia in maintaining maritime readiness and strengthening their ability to operate together in the West Philippine Sea.
