This is kind of a blunt take. To take something literally means to take it in the style of literature in which it was written. The Psalms are not the same genre as the histories or the wisdom literature. You just have to read each in its own style on its own terms.

I truly did not realize people interpreted the bible literally until I was in my 20’s. I didn’t grow up around any religion and when I grew up and moved away I was hit with the realization that “oh… you guys don’t just love this book… you think it’s actually real… you think this legit happened.”
