TQ to PMX and the MADANI Government for sending our SMART Team to Nepal to assist in the search-and-rescue efforts. 🇲🇾🙏🏽 I understand that we must respect the wishes of the Government of Nepal, which initially declined international assistance for search and rescue, while requesting assistance in the form of cash (we ought to provide through proper and legitimate channels), medical supplies, food and drinking water. That said, given the scale of this unimaginable humanitarian crisis, I believe Malaysia, like many other countries, could have been more persistent in offering our assistance. No country should have to stand alone in the face of such devastation. Ultimately, Nepal has the sovereign right to determine what assistance it accepts and which agencies are permitted to enter the country. We must respect that decision, even if we may not always understand the reasons behind it. What matters now is that every possible effort is made to locate and bring home our Malaysian citizens who remain unaccounted for. Their families deserve nothing less than our fullest support and every reasonable effort to establish their whereabouts. The overwhelming willingness of countries around the world to extend a helping hand speaks volumes about the spirit of humanity. In times of such catastrophic tragedy, borders should never stand in the way of compassion and assistance. And for the record, I do not have any family member, relative or friend in Nepal who is angry that PMX was “slow” to offer a helping hand. My concern is simply that, in a humanitarian crisis of this magnitude, every possible avenue of assistance should be explored. May the people of Nepal find strength and may those still missing be found and brought safely home. 🙏🏽🇳🇵❤️🇲🇾
