@huckleberry.cant.hear: At the end of the day, it’s only hair 🤷🏼‍♀️ 💇🏼 I really didn’t want to do this though… a little for vanity’s sake, but mostly because I was worried about whether it will help. Why am I shaving my gorgeous, long hair cat? Because we’re starting to get desperate for solutions. Nothing else (besides pregabalin) has seemed to help what is theoretically Feline Hyperaesthesia Syndrome. After trying a whole lot of things and a whole lot of tests, all with no answers, this was something we could do with very little risk of side effects. Winter is well and truly over in QLD so cold isn’t much of a concern. I saw the idea on @lucilletherescuecat’s page as it helped her cat Margaret with FHS. I started thinking and remembered that his hair was this short when I adopted him. I thought he was a short-medium hair. His fur and undercoat took several months to grow and his twitching started 5 1/2 months after coming home. For a few reasons I figured now was ideal. 1. We don’t have any upcoming medical trials. 2. His belly, head, neck, and 3 out of 4 legs were already shaved from various medical procedures, so may as well even it out. 3. I feel like his symptoms are as stable as they’ve been in a long while, so I should be able to tell if it helps (or doesn’t). I also tested touching the ends of his fur without touching his skin and that seemed to irritate him. When shaving I did discover some big mats at the base of his back and across to the sides. I don’t know whether these are a cause or consequence - have they been pinching and making him twitch or has he not been grooming himself because of pain which has resulted in mats? They were so hidden I didn’t even feel them until after the shaving was done (or so I thought) and was just patting him. Why am I not paying a professional groomer? I don’t have the money but mostly it would distress him way more than this hatchet job. TBD on whether it has helped or not! #catsoftiktok #catgrooming #fyp #deafcat #cutecat
