Last time I was in Germany visiting some friends, we were thinking about something to do on a lazy weekend between other things. They lived near Lake Muritz, so I suggested we go fishing - the last time they visited me in the US they really enjoyed that here. The shock in their faces that I would suggest fishing. Despite living near the lake, none of them could fish. The whole process of just relaxing and tossing a line in the water requires several weeks of classes, multiple tests just to get the license. After that they would need a separate permit for every lake, river, stream and even portion of the shore that they planned on fishing from... Of course, as a tourist, I would have been able to get my license and permit with only a couple days of running around between city halls, tourist offices and tracking down who controls the permit for where I wanted to fish. Germany is such a sad country...the favorite hobby is doing paperwork. 😅

You're joking, but you're true to it!! I've lived in Germany for 7 years and Germany just sucks the energy! It's depressing!! I'm definitely leaving this year because I can't stand it anymore!!
