@chinaembassyinmaldives: Today, as we mark the Maldives National Engineers’ Day and the 8th anniversary of the opening of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, let’s look back on the memories of building the bridge. As a landmark project of the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, the bridge also stands as a major successful infrastructure deliverable under the Belt and Road Initiative. During construction, Chinese and Maldivian project stakeholders demonstrated dedication and strong commitment, overcoming onsite challenges to complete the project in an ultra-short 33 months. They tackled tough technical obstacles amid complex deep-sea geological and hydrological conditions, while developing and applying new durable materials that set a precedent for mega-bridge construction in similar marine environments. Every step of the bridge’s construction remains deeply etched in the builders’ memories.
