Your entire argument collapses because you’ve misunderstood what “traveling through a medium” actually means. Ocean sound doesn’t require a straight-line path from Cuba to Ireland. Seawater has changing temperature, pressure, and salinity with depth, which change the speed of sound. Those changes cause sound to refract, meaning the wave bends through the water column. Under the right conditions, sound can be guided through deep-ocean sound channels and travel enormous distances with surprisingly little loss. And that “8 million feet of curvature” nonsense is especially revealing. You calculated how much curved surface exists between two points and then apparently decided a sound wave has to physically follow the curvature of the solid Earth. It doesn’t. The ocean is a three-dimensional volume of water sitting above the seafloor. The sound propagates through the water column, not through the crust. It’s almost like you started with “sound is a mechanical wave” and then immediately forgot what a mechanical wave is. Also, “the sound would just hit the curve of the Earth” is not an explanation. What part of the Earth do you think it hits? The seafloor? At what depth? Along what path? And why would a wave traveling through thousands of feet of water suddenly decide to travel downward until it intersects the seabed? The funniest part is that your proposed “problem” is literally solved by basic ocean acoustics. Whales communicate over vast distances precisely because low-frequency sound propagates extremely well through seawater, with refraction and ocean structure helping it travel long distances. You didn't discover a problem with a globe. You discovered that you don't understand how sound propagates through an ocean.

I think you forget that sound bends water and that depiction of the echolocation from the dolphin it's not really accurate it doesn't travel like a beam through the water the sound completely fills the water every quarter inch of the entire pool of the ocean it doesn't travel like a laser beam it travels like an echo in a canyon.

Sound waves bend and curve due to temperature and wind gradients, which bend the sound waves downwards forcing it to conform to the curvature of the earth. In the case of whales, its the water instead of wind gradients. Remember that sound requires a medium to travel, so if it travels through the water it will stay in the water until it dissipates.
