@saiyukthav: its not just about the threading appiontment but moreso freedom to express ourselves in a way that makes us feel comfortable #brownparents #strictparents
Don’t even get me started on any hair style other than dowdy braids being disallowed. It’s been about 20 years since I’ve braided my hair and I will probably never do it .

As a Latina it took me taking my dads razor in like 3rd grade and cutting my face trying to shave my mustache off then again in 5th grade i shaved my unibrow off and looking a mess. It was so bad my mom had no choice but to take me to the salon to get them fixed. I had to beg to shave my legs in middle school like i wasn’t getting bullied in PE for having extremely hairy legs

literally yesterday in a restaurant my mom noticed i trimmed my eyebrows and my dad started talking shit to my face saying me doing make up and bold eyeliner and trimming my eyebrows is all bc of social media. i told him to stop so many times but he wouldn’t. mind you the other tables were already staring. i was getting so anxious. n i fight w my dad a lot and my mom walked away and started texting me that i need to start being civil and that it makes her cry when i fight w my dad. like what about my feelings?

That's why I never liked that glow up trend. Like, we weren't ugly/unattractive, our parents just didn't let us get hair removal, wear clothes that we liked or that were trendy, and kept make-up limited. I remember being shocked when I found out girls from other ethnicities were allowed to do hair removal in elementary school.

my mom died when I was nine so I didn't have her to like tell my dad not to be an idiot. he didn't wanna buy me bras and kept saying I wasn't gonna grow much because my mom didn't have big boobs so I could just wear tank tops with the built in in there. he thought bras caused cancer. and I got into doing different braided hairstyles when I was in fifth grade and wanted to be a cosmetologist and I only had me to practice on and he told me if I did my hair too much it would be vain. that one was like so confusing like what??

despite being white, my mom did the sameeee exact thing. my mom did get mad that i was shaving in secret or that i waxed and plucked my stache n eyebrows. it was like a “fine u wont let me get it done ill do it myself” situation. yes, i did end up going through horrible phases with my eyebrows but i was getting made fun of for how thick they were.

I’m so sorry to you guys. My mom would ask me at 10 if I wanted that stuff especially because she knows how it feels to be bullied by that stuff. I didn’t care till I was maybe about 12. But either way. It’s about having the choice to do that. 😭😭

as an adult I know you shouldn't have to worry about being desirable or attractive at such a young age... but also I burned my upper lip with nair at 13 and shaved off half my eyebrow at 7 so I get it 😭. it's not even just about being attractive. it's the fact that beauty standards are so far apart from what are natural state of being is that it can't help make you feel other and then it's like the exact opposite of assimilation you stand out like a sore thumb. and not all brown families are like this, so youll go to a family party and everyone else is cute! and you're hairy, anxious, and have hyperpigmentation 🤷🏽♀️(by you I mean me)

I thought I was the only one who wasn’t allowed to pluck, wax or shave growing up. I was in elementary & middle school walking around with more hair than the boys
