July 31 was my final day after 29 years…and I didn’t “retire”…. I also didn’t leave because I suddenly stopped caring about education. I left because I had reached a level of burnout I could no longer ignore. I was exhausted. I was drained. I was physically getting sick. And eventually, the toxicity and stress were costing me more than I was willing to keep paying. For so long, leaving felt impossible. Retirement felt out of reach for me. Teaching was what I knew. It’s my calling. And like so many teachers, I had skills—but I didn’t realize those same skills could be used to create income outside of the classroom. So I started building something from my phone. And that decision eventually gave me something I desperately needed: options. This next chapter isn’t about telling every teacher to quit. It’s about showing burned-out teachers that the classroom doesn’t have to be their only path to income. Your skills don’t disappear when you leave the school building.
