I ranked 15 dividend ETFs from bad to amazing. Every fund got judged on the same three things: what it costs, whether the yield is real dividends, and what your money actually grew to. That's why SDIV is in the bad box. It pays around 9%, but it's returned about 1% a year since 2011 because the payout keeps eating the fund. You collect a dividend while the thing paying it shrinks. QYLD is sneakier. The 11% it pays is option income, not dividends. Its actual 30-day SEC yield is 0.02%, and the share price has dropped from $25 to about $18 since 2013. The amazing boxes are mostly a fee story. Vanguard cut VYM to 0.04% and VYMI to 0.07% last year, so they're the cheapest funds in their rounds. SCHD still charges just 0.06% for a 3% yield that grows every year. And TMDV is in a bad box for a different reason: the whole fund holds $4.4 million. That's small enough to get shut down. Full disclosure, I don't own a single fund on this list. My portfolio is VOO, SMH, and AIS. But if I were building for income, this is the exact map I'd use. All numbers are as of August 2026. Fees and yields change, so check the fund page before you buy. Comment VAULT and I'll send you my ETF cheat sheet, my five lesson course, the calculators I use, and access to my community. 100% free.
