@thesunnahguy: It’s very easy to look at someone else’s life and only see the part you want. The single person looks at marriage and sees companionship. The married person sometimes remembers the freedom of being single. The person without children dreams about having a house full of them. The exhausted parent sometimes dreams about having one quiet afternoon. The person struggling in business wants more customers. The successful business owner sometimes wishes the phone would stop ringing. Everyone is looking across the fence at a different test. And I think one of the biggest mistakes we make is romanticising the things Allah hasn’t given us yet. We imagine the blessing without imagining the responsibility that comes with it. More money comes with responsibility. Marriage comes with responsibility. Children come with responsibility. Success comes with responsibility. Even the things you’ve spent years making du’a for will eventually test you. That doesn’t mean they aren’t blessings. It means this dunya was never designed to become completely comfortable. There will always be something. Something you’re waiting for. Something you’re worried about. Something you’re trying to fix. Something you’re scared of losing. And if your happiness depends on eventually reaching a stage where everything in your life is finally perfect... You’ll spend your entire life waiting to be happy. There are people with far more than you who have absolutely no peace. And there are people with very little who genuinely wake up content. The difference isn’t always what’s in their hands. It’s what’s in their heart. So stop looking at the next stage of your life thinking that’s where peace begins. Build your relationship with Allah. Have tawakkul in Him. Be grateful for what’s already in front of you. And deal with the tests that come with it. Because once the heart is genuinely content with Allah... A lot of the things we spend our lives worrying about really do become details.
