@thefemtechdoctor: As a doctor working in women's health, I got something wrong. For years I thought the biggest risk to women's health was women losing trust in doctors. I don't think that anymore. The real risk is women losing trust in themselves — because they've been told, over and over, that what they know is wrong in their own body is actually "normal." Enough of that, and you stop trusting your own judgment altogether. You DO know what's best for your body. Finding the right information, and knowing when and how to access care, is what's missing. The biggest risk to women’s healthcare is doctors not listening to us and saying crap like we don’t trust ourselves after having to repeat the same damn thing time and time again to the point that we don’t go seek care from the medical system anymore bc it’s beyond broken and sucks the life out of us to fight so we are forced to become our own medical care providers

I totally agree back in Christmas 2025. I went to the doctor presenting gallbladder like pain but having had my gallbladder removed in the February. I knew this couldn’t be the case. I’d had the pain for four days and went to the doctors in the evening. she said just drink clear liquid and check in the morning. The pain was still terrible 10/10and the drs Reception said I’d miss the appointments for that day and I should ring again in the morning by Wednesday morning I was yellow and my daughter said to ring 111. Who immediately sent me to A&E when I got to A&E nurse said I was in liver failure and I had to go straight to a doctor. I knew the pain was bad and not right I was in hospital for four days. Had an operation to six gallstones that were trapped in my bile duct and they had to put a 6 cm stent in my pancreas. ALWAYS always trust your own pain level.

No, I trust myself fully. It is doctors that I do not trust and probably will never trust again.

I disagree, I will just go to the doctor when something is wrong, and I've never felt I've been ignored be it a male or a female doctor. I've actually found male doctors to be more sympathetic (I'm guessing because they don't "know"). I found the most difficult was accessing mental health services, which I never did get, and it was a woman doctor. On the other side I had massive panic attacks and it was a woman doctor who signed me off. its just the human you get.

while this might be slightly true that doctors have ignored women to the point of losing confidence id say its more giving up and not knowing where else to go. plus medical misogyny and womens refusal at times to complain. medical misogyny is the problem and the dismissal and lack of knowledge, research and care about women.

I think you were right the first time. We can still know something is wrong, but there's nowhere to go. We are banging our heads on brick walls trying to get help

I've got ADHD and can't get a diagnosis/meds. Was dismissed by a (male) GP at my surgery as being 'too old' for a diagnosis. That was three years ago.

This is so fundamentally true. Even when I had a routine appointment, I wanted to prioritise what I believe to me a more critical issue I’m dealing with. Dr dismissed me said maybe make further appointment. (Almost impossible) hormone issues just too complicated I think.

Nope, it’s both. I actively avoid going to the doctors now. I’m sick of hearing that it’s probably hormones/in my head/depression..also at one point, “if it hurts, don’t poke it”, but I’ve also gaslit myself into thinking that maybe it IS all in my head, since I couldn’t get any doctor to believe me. I’m now being seen by a consultant BUT it took my HUSBAND writing to the GP to get me there. I’ve pretty much given up on GPs.

Nope, I know when I'm ill. Thrombolysed because no clinicians believed me. I have this experience and working for the NHS to know not to trust.

Nope, I believe me, I don’t believe my Drs, they tell me it’s anxiety or age.. I’ve been hearing that all my life. Surprisingly I’ve been right 99% of the time.

I presented 7 times in 6 months to my GP. I was bleeding 3 weeks of the month and in agony. First, I was told to take OTC pain medication and had to fight for actual help. Then after a horrific attempt at a smear which was unsuccessful, I was put on the 5 year waiting list for gynae at UHD. I then started bleeding every day, so after 3 more GP appointments I got red flagged. After a colposcopy, again horrific, I went for fibroid removal under anaesthetic, and 4 weeks after that I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Then, a second operation was unsuccessful to remove it. 38 appointments in total. I went private and had to have a hysterectomy. The diagnostic stage is irreparable in the NHS. The standard of care is dehumanising and nonexistent. My GP’s and consultants were women who all failed me terribly and my disappointment in them is insurmountable. I’ll never trust a GP about anything ever again.

Nahh it's definitely my doctor. He has never even looked up at my face 🤣 I don't care, he hands over the diazepam, so I don't kick up a fuss 🤣

So true. Medical gaslighting makes us believe our often debilitating symptoms are in our heads or not that bad. I also avoid going to the gp because of the number of times where I've been offered the pill, antidepressants and told to lose weight.

I'm sick of not being listened to. I'm a carer for four family members with different needs and doctors seem to make up their mind what's going on in the first 30 seconds and just ignore anything else I bring up as though it's irrelevant. I don't bother going for myself because when I have gone to a GP, (even though I rarely go) I haven't been taken seriously. I just don't have the bandwidth anymore to fight to be listened to.

no it's trusting and knowing your body and being dismissed by Doctors Patients have to advocate for themselves now Feel very sorry for women who for whatever reason can't advocate themselves There is no care now or interest in patients
