@pitochk: Out of all the branches of biology, botany gives me a strange sense of aesthetic pleasure and calm. Plants make you want to observe them, draw them, study their anatomy, and surround yourself with them. There is something incredibly beautiful about their structures, symmetry, colors, and the quiet complexity hidden inside every leaf, stem, and flower. Botany is also one of the sciences that helped shape our civilization. Our understanding of plants became the foundation of agriculture, allowing us to cultivate crops more efficiently and feed billions of people around the world. Medicine has been connected to plants for thousands of years. Many important compounds were first discovered in nature, and plants remain an enormous source of molecules studied in modern pharmacology and medicine. There is something special about studying organisms that quietly surround us everywhere and sustain almost every ecosystem on Earth.
