There's a major issue with all of these lifting-body, flying-wing designs, and that's that there are a lot of hurdles with stability, yaw control, elevation control, things that you're missing from having a tail on an aircraft effectively operating as a weather vane behind the aircraft.
Flying wings are very prone to a lot of instability issues that are typically being fixed in aircraft like our stealth bombers with active control systems that are constantly intervening to keep the aircraft stable. And that's one thing for a military aircraft with a crew of a couple of people on it. It's another thing for a civilian commercial aircraft to be a fundamentally, inherently unstable airframe that's dependent on electrical fly-by-wire systems.
I don't know, with current electrical and computer systems, if you can ever have one of these be at a level of dependability and redundancy, given its dependence on the flight-control systems, to ever be a commercially viable aircraft for passenger travel.
And yes, I actually am an aeronautical engineer, although I don't work in that field any longer. That's where my career started. And this has always been one of the fundamental issues with the flying-wing or blended-wing lifting-body combinations.
It really seems like these companies that are pushing for it for capacity reasons brush over the inherent... I don't want to say "dangers"... but certainly the inherent elevated risks of these types of airframes.

They’re working with scaled composites on a demonstrator. Scaled composites, like a handful of other companies, is amazing at building limited production demonstrators that turn out to be impossible to scale into production. JetZero is pretty well known in the industry to be vastly underfunded for the technical infrastructure that they need to build to support a part 25 production line. The $4.7B MIGHT be able to pay for that facility if they don’t end up having to completely retool it after they get into building the fatigue and static test models and test facilities and running ground test before they get into certification flight test… but that’s not even enough to fund an aircraft development program in the current certification environment.
