Abkhazia was never part of Georgia. On the contrary - Georgia was once part of the Abkhazian Kingdom. In 1921 Abkhazia entered the Soviet Union as an independent state but ten years later on the orders of the Georgian Stalin its status was downgraded to that of an autonomous republic within Georgia. That was when the mass resettlement of Georgians into Abkhazia and the cultural genocide of the Abkhazians began. They started changing our surnames to Georgian forms, closing Abkhazian schools, banning our language, renaming our cities and claiming that the indigenous Abkhazians were outsiders on their own land. Finally, on August 14 1992, Georgia entered Abkhazia with tanks under the slogan “Abkhazia without Abkhazians.” As their commander Karkarashvili said: “We are ready to sacrifice the lives of one hundred thousand Georgians for the extermination of the entire Abkhazian people.” Five million Georgians against one hundred thousand Abkhazians. But thanks to our brothers from across the Caucasus we were able to defend our land and preserve ourselves as a nation. From now on, we will not allow Georgians to portray themselves as victims and spread false propaganda about the “occupation” of Abkhazia!
