“What did Joe expect?” Honestly? I think Joe expected her family to stand by her. She didn’t refuse to go home because she didn’t care about them. She refused because their safety is one of her biggest priorities. She had literally been kidnapped from outside her own home, tortured and mutilated, and she knew whoever did it was still out there. Of course she wanted to find out who was responsible. Of course she wanted to finish it. In Joe’s mind, if she could eliminate the threat, she could make her family safe again. And yes, Neal has every right to be terrified. I’m not saying he’s wrong for being overwhelmed by everything that’s happened. But Joe also spent years trying to prepare him for the reality of her job. She wanted him to learn how to use a gun for their children’s safety. He didn’t. She has repeatedly tried to make him understand the risks surrounding her work, but the problem is that her family doesn’t actually know the full extent of what she does. They know she has a dangerous job. They don’t know the reality of it. They don’t know what she sees, what she has to do, what she carries home mentally, or how quickly everything can go from normal family life to someone dying on their doorstep. Yes, Joe needs to be more present. Absolutely. Her kids need their mum. Neal needs his wife. I completely understand why they’re exhausted, scared and angry. Someone literally died at their front door by their mother’s hand, and then the kids were never told the truth about what happened. Neal and Joe have both been lying and withholding things from those children. I understand the reasoning, they’re trying to protect them, but eventually those kids are going to notice that something is very, very wrong. So no, I don’t think this is simply “Joe chose her job over her family.” I think Joe genuinely believed she was choosing her family’s safety. Two people can both be scared. Two people can both have valid reasons. And two people can still completely fail to understand each other. But personally? I’m still standing with Joe. 😂 She survived being kidnapped, tortured, lost a fucking toe, came home and found an empty house… Absolutely not. I stand by Joe.
