@the.ianlin: Have a child that keeps saying "I know I know" along with the eye rolls? These are what we call Number 1 personality kids. That don't want to be treated as dumb. So when you give feedback, just say it once and leave it there #personalitybasedparenting #parentingtips #consciousliving #understanding #connection

My ‘I know’ child is also very ADHD and forgets what he’s doing while he’s doing it

Lmfao I sat my kid down and told her “even if you do know, great. Let people give you new ideas don’t just say “I know”” I haven’t heard her say “I know” in months (I was that kid too)

I usually preface my repetition with “I know you already know this, but I have to say it again so that I know I’ve told you” usually taking that repetition as my responsibility instead of theirs.

I have AuDHD and used to say I know a lot as a kid, my mom would said “knowing is different than doing.” It worked with me!

Any condition aside, kids like this grew up in an environment with a level of nagging and yapping, and at the same time, their efforts are always downplayed or nagged at - despite being smart kids. So theyre stuck in a loop of being nagged at, but also unable to take action because their subconscious says its no longer worth it. It could be that one time they fixed the table and you didnt like the way they did it. The fix? Be a nicer parent, be more open to their independence and uniqueness.

they are probably constantly treated like they are stupid if they don't know something by their parents, so they have adapted to say "I know" and roll their eyes like their parent does when they try to tell them something.

I don’t know if I agree with this particular belief because I can tell my kids something and they say I know and that’s a.k.a. shut up Mom and it never gets done

That was/is me. If it's your kid, don't stress. As the adult version of one of those kids, I have a career I love as a scholar and university lecturer; two incredible kids of my own; an amazing wife who is more brilliant than I am in every way. Just love and enjoy your frustratingly independent child. They'll be fine. They're going to find their own way rather than yours - maybe with some rough patches along the way. Just keep loving them.

What I say is, “ I know you know, but in case you forgot…” it works every time. It’s polite and it makes them feel like you’re not doubting them. Works every time.

They want to be acknowledged for the level of knowledge the have or the amount of effort that they have put in. Once they feel seen the « I Know » auto response becomes less frequent in my experience
