oh by the way we know the earth is 4.5 billionish years old because we took lead (uranium decay) and carbon dated it, for reference it takes around 5 billions years for lead to decay

I know it’s accurate because there are people who spend their entire lives studying such stuff and I’m a complete amateur so it doesn’t seem smart for me to question it. I can never be an expert at everything. I can know about something but not know exactly why, how or when because someone else spent the time to figure that out and I can just educate myself on their discoveries.

Carbon dating is not used for the age of the planet. Carbon dating is only good for about up to 50k yrs. Pretty sure they figured out the age of the earth via analyzing Uranium into Lead in a meteorite which was formed during the beginning of our solar system and compared them to the uranium to lead levels on earth and voila
