The chemical reaction has just started.Rainwater hits the surface and washes away fine cement particles. What's left is a weak layer — called laitance. A chalky, dusty film that never properly bonds.The water-cement ratio rises. Strength drops. The surface becomes brittle and flaky.For pavements and slabs, this matters most. Surface strength carries load, resists abrasion,protects the structure.Rain in the first one to two hours can silently strip 20 to 30 percent of that strength. The damage doesn't show immediately.
