My mom is in assisted living and it's been awesome for her - she needs socialization and 24 hour support that my sister and I can't provide. I'm not saying that's what you should do, but just know that all places aren't bad.

Putting someone in a nursing home is not quitting; sometimes it’s the best solution for everyone’s safety. I’m not saying that he should be in a nursing home, but please don’t imply that doing so it would be quitting. When and if he is ever open to it, it might be good for him to be around people his own age.

My dad lived with us for the last 1-1/2 year of his life! He passed here. Hubby got fired because he was working limited hours and was my dad’s 24/7 caregiver! Best decisions ever!

what bugs me is that it’s none of anyone’s else business. He is well cared for and loved greatly. That’s all that matters. Think he will get that kind of support and love in a home? Nope! He sure won’t!

Nursing homes are under staffed and should only be used when someone is not available to take care of individuals in a less restrictive environment. I was in one at the age of 39 for 6 months getting daily therapy and relearning skills and didn't have a home with my family that was safe and they were not able to do everything needed. Once the option was available and we learned the skills I was out. those 6 months I had to fight to get showers and I can count on both hands how many I got. I had an aide who was forceful with me even though I told her I didn't need to be moved but she thought because I was there my ability to know what was going on was gone. I was luckily able to advocate for myself but think about the Individual who are unable to. The amount of times I had to say "if this is the way you are trying to treat someone who is of sound mind but broken body, how are you treating someone who can't communicate or remember good versus bed". it's not all unicorns and rainbows. I will say I have good stories too about my time there but its definitely he doesn't need to leave a home with people around willing and able. Haters need to take a vacation at a nursing home.

When it becomes a safety issue then yes but if they are medically able to stay in their home than yes please keep them at home ❤️❤️❤️

ppl also dont realize that when any senior citizen goes into a nursing home their social security and retirement have to pay for it...its not covered by insurance so then they have no money left over...and if they are on medicaid and when they pass it all goes to reimburse medicaid

There are programs and community that allows elders to age out in their homes… as a friend it isn’t easy… but after they pass, we never regret our devotion to them… I dream of a day where the karma comes back at me…. I dream that there will be a devoted friend for me as I’ve been for so many other elders in the last 60 years of my life…

america really has become the land of "me,me,me". I take care of my disabled mother and elderly grandfather and I constantly get thanked by their drs for taking care of them because that isn't the norm in this country anymore.
