I left this video pretty uncut because I wanted you guys to hear directly from Birdie’s new vet team what her care is going to look like! Wound VAC (with ALL the supplies), three surgeons putting their heads together and getting creative, AND because it’s a teaching hospital, an intern will be dedicated to Birdie so she has constant one on one company and care🥹 There were just so many things mentioned that make us feel really confident that THIS is where she needs to be!❤️‍🩹 And as you can see, a few hours with us (and her sedatives wearing off😂) really revived her spirit🥲🥰 Birdie is still her zesty, spunky self when she’s with us, which is such a great sign. She still LOVES life!! That much is easy to tell. What she’s NOT loving is being trapped in hospitals for this long😭 Especially after being transferred from one hospital to another because the last hospital accepted her specifically for VAC treatment and then realized they didn’t have the supplies to continue it🙃 So at this hospital, we’re going ALL OUT. Heavier sedation to keep her calm and give the VAC the best possible chance to be effective. If that isn’t enough, we’ll explore a skin graft. If something else starts looking like a better option along the way, we’ll explore that too. We agreed with her new team that we don’t want to leave a good option unattempted. But we also recognize that Birdie is starting to hate this process, so we don’t want to drag things out unnecessarily either. We’re going to try everything we can, and we’re going to try it now! And finally… thank you guys SOOO much for all of the love and support. Your comments on yesterday’s post genuinely put our hearts at ease and even changed our perspective on some of what we’ve been feeling! We ARE proud that we chose to rescue Birdie. We’re proud that we didn’t take the easy route. We’re proud that we gave this girl the chance to discover how freaking GOOD life can be. And whatever happens from here, Birdie will never have to go through any of it alone again💕🕊️
