I think it’s doable! You will probably need to find a new fabric for the squares that are totally missing. You could also find a top quilt stitch that you like to prevent further tearing!

I would recommend that you deconstruct it (with permission ofc) and take the pieces that feel sturdy and incorporate them into a new baby blanket with a similar or matching pattern. Yes, the backing is intact but it's also incredibly thin and baby blankets get washed a lot because babies get things dirty a lot. it's repairable if you wanted to keep it as a keepsake, but not if you want to keep it to use. You could also sort of duplicate it. go with your husband pick out identical fabrics (or similar if identical ones can't be found) and remake it now with love from the two of you.

It is technically fixable. But I wouldn’t. First, it might be commercially made unless you know a family member made it. I might cut out the colored patches, back them with super light fusible woven interfacing, then add more fabrics.

I would carefully take it completely apart, find a fusable interfacing to hold it together . find new fabric for the missing pieces. new batting and pray.
