Hardie taught at Bexhill High School from 1991 until his dismissal in 2007, abusing his authority to groom and sexually assault a 15-year-old schoolgirl before raping her twice. Sussex Police reopened inquiries in 2021 and seized his electronic devices, forensically recovering sexual messages that linked him directly to the abuse of the victim.
