A) both creatures are herbivores, and smell like herbivores to each other, so there is no personal threat. B) no human is visible, so that unpredictably deadly behavior we are known for was not present. C) The approach was respectful and curious. For those reasons, this meeting went as expected.

This encounter occurred in a wildlife reserve in South Africa in 2025. Experts believe the animals may have already been familiar with each other from seeing one another near reserve fences, or because patrol horses in conservation areas train alongside rhinos to build mutual calm. Whatever the reason, this is a beautiful and extraordinary video.
