Cost of living in Lesotho is very low compared to SA, so I don’t think it’s a bad salary at all

Big shout out to the health care workers’ strike of 2009 because intern doctors in SA at that time were taking home R17-18K.

Lifestyle in Lesotho is very economical, no rates n taxes, petrol n food bit cheaper as well as rent so it's decent. If after few years he will get 55/60 that will still be a good salary. SA lifestyle is expensive.

R26k net is honestly not a bad salary at all for a medical intern in Lesotho. The cost of living is relatively low compared to South Africa, Botswana and other Southern African countries. For example, in Maseru, a decent 2-bedroom duplex can go for around R2.5k–R5k depending on the area, and water, electricity, groceries and transport are also relatively affordable. Since Lesotho doesn’t have a medical school, most doctors study outside the country, so someone who studied abroad and is used to a more luxurious lifestyle may find R26k limiting. But for a normal lifestyle in Lesotho, it’s a very reasonable salary for an intern, and after completing internship and qualifying as a doctor, the salary increases significantly.
