At places like Berghain, Tresor, Fabric, Blitz, FOLD, Fuse and others, photography is restricted or banned, while some venues go even further and ask people to keep phones off the dancefloor completely. The reason is bigger than just “no filming”. It is about privacy, freedom and atmosphere. A dancefloor changes when people know they are not being recorded. People move differently, interact differently and stop thinking about how the night looks online. For decades, club culture was built around temporary spaces, shared experiences and the idea that what happened inside stayed inside. The rise of smartphones changed that completely. Now, some clubs are trying to bring part of that feeling back. Not anti-phone. Not anti-content. Just a reminder that sometimes the best nights are the ones you don’t need to prove happened.
