@chandrebezuidenhou: Safety Officers, your job is not to catch people doing wrong — it’s to prevent people from getting hurt. There’s a difference. 👷🏽♀️🦺 #SafetyOfficer #WorkplaceSafety #MiningSafety #creatorsearchinsights #safetyofficerinmining
A lot of safety officers I worked with are just like security officers they make people hate them, they'll be looking for things they themselves knows that they are not practical...check on reports they write after and accident they you will see how stupid they are...they are there only to protect their asses not to help employees

As an HSE professional with oil & gas and project experience, I understand the theory but real worksites demand enforcement, not just observation. Workers have different mindsets, and if critical rules are not strictly enforced, they will be ignored. Identifying hazards and managing risk is our duty, but stopping unsafe work, challenging violations, and enforcing controls is equally part of the job. We are not there to win popularity; we are there to prevent incidents, protect lives.

if you were a safety officer you would understand how this works. imagine you had a toolbox meeting like 3 hours ago, and then you see Mark on site without his PPE? THEN WHAT?

I completely agree with these valuable points. In HSE, I have observed that miscommunication, ego, or disrespectful behavior can sometimes create unnecessary potential hazards and negatively impact the work environment. Safety requires teamwork, mutual respect, and clear communication. We should always communicate with everyone in a professional and respectful manner to maintain a safe and positive workplace.

I get your point clear, but trust me most people don't wear correct PPEs on purpose amd they're very much aware about them. The only way to make sure they follow these rules is to enforce them with counselling, warnings.

Even HR shall not dismiss people. They must encourage people to follow the rules instead of dismissing them. Those people have dependants to feed. As HR personnel, you must earn people's trust.

For how long to you educate and train people? Employee do crazy things deliberately and sometimes you need to catch them in the act to prevent incidents.

So, are you suggesting that if a Safety Officer sees a PPE violation, they should just let it be? Since you mentioned that Safety Officers are not “safety police,” I think it’s important to understand the context. If you’ve learned about Behaviour-Based Safety, you would understand why a Safety Officer may sometimes need to act like “safety police.” Not every organisation operates at a proactive or generative safety culture level. The approach should be adapted according to the organisation’s existing safety culture and maturity. You apply the approach based on the context and level of safety culture within the organisation, rather than assuming that one approach works for everyone.
