My mama would have snatched me up, make me apologize, and wash the neighbor’s car, clean her windows, and weed her garden all summer. My mama did not play with disrespect to elders at all. Luckily, I knew enough to fear my mom and never talked back to adults.

I taught my children that they didn't have to respect people that didn't respect them..... But if that's actually how it went down.... Then she was being perfectly respectful and nice and making an absolutely reasonable request..... But it's my personal belief that teaching children they must respect people just for being older than them gets you in trouble.... Because some folks are just assholes....

I got threatened for telling children not to be riding their bicycle around cars. I raised my children not to act that way.

This isn't just about respecting elders, even though you should, but also about no emotional regulation and respecting others in general. Its never ok to become violent like this. We need more accountability and CONSEQUENCES for one's own actions. May God help us all 💯 🙏
