@artemiscollective: Are Greek myths just memories of the Bronze Age? Part 3 🏺 | One of Greek mythology's most infamous dynasties may have been based on a real Mycenaean ruling house. Around 1400 BC, Hittite records mention a powerful ruler from the Mycenaean world named Attarsiya. He commanded a major military force and led a campaign in western Anatolia. And some scholars have proposed that his name may correspond to a very familiar Greek one: Atreus. The chronology makes a literal identification difficult. But could the Greeks have preserved the memory of a real Bronze Age ruler and eventually folded it into the legendary House of Atreus?
