Personally I always hated they added Legolas to the Hobbit movies because it completely plot holes Legolas and Gimili entire enemies to lovers(whether you view it as rom or platonic is up to individual) for me. Gloin is at the founding of the Fellowship in the books, so he would’ve seen Legolas there and most likely also told Gimili about him with stories, taking away a lot of their character development in the LotR books.
