Our parents told us to do the responsible thing and go into a major with safe career options. How’s that working out for us?? My kids can major in “basket weaving” if that’s what they love. Everything is made up and the points don’t matter.

That’s why the kids need different goals. My daughter works as a vet tech because she loves animals and had too much adhd to study to be a vet. She loves it and will always have a job. My son is audhd has no diploma and wants to be a writer. He will probably live with me until he publishes his first book, and always deliver food on the side, but it’s fine. He is who he is. My foster daughter studies forensic psychology. She wants to work with abused children like herself. All these goals are very personal and meaningful to them.

My son is 24 and got laid off from a hydrogen power company - struggling to find another job. It is hard to know what to tell him so I just feed him..

I would tell any young person to learn a physical trade/skill. I read a scary statistic, that half of all entry-level, white-collar jobs will be taken over by AI within five years. That includes jobs like paralegal, or even attorney. It’ll take longer for robots to develop into electricians and plumbers and hair stylists. Heck, learn to juggle. Even in a dystopian world people will want entertainment.
