@georgiaintech: Stop letting recruiters give you false hope. Because this is something nobody tells you. You can have an amazing interview, they tell you how impressive you are, make you feel like the job is basically yours… And then silence. Reality is they’re probably saying the same thing to 5 other people. So instead of just sitting there waiting, this is what I always say to stay in control without sounding pushy. If they say “We’ll be in touch soon” You say “Sounds great, I’m really looking forward to it. I know things get busy though so would it be okay if I checked in by [day/date] if I haven’t heard back?” This alone usually gets you an actual timeline. Then if you want to take it one step further say “Perfect that works for me. Just so I know, is there any reason I wouldn’t hear back by then? I know hiring can get hectic.” Keep it light. Not intense. This does 3 things Sets expectations Gives you a follow up date Makes you sound confident not desperate And if they still don’t follow through Send one quick follow up and move on. Honestly this works way more than people realise. If you’re a graduate in the UK and you’re stuck sending applications and getting nowhere, I get it. There are actual careers out there paying £65k - £85k plus that most people were never told about.
