This leaves out a pretty enormous detail. Yes, Biden drew down the Strategic Petroleum Reserve heavily in 2022. But Trump just authorized a 172-million-barrel SPR release in 2026 which helped push the reserve to about 290 million barrels, its lowest level in decades. Trump has now announced that Venezuelan oil will be used to refill it, but the “65 billion barrels” is NOT 65 billion barrels being delivered to the SPR. It refers to estimated oil reserves in Venezuelan fields covered by the new agreement, and actually producing that oil at scale could take years. So, to clarify: Biden made a historically large drawdown, Trump made another historically large drawdown, and now Trump says he plans to replenish it with future Venezuelan production. “Biden drained it and Trump is refilling it with 65 billion barrels” is a very misleading version of what actually happened. Even if all 65 billion barrels went to the SPR, it wouldn’t fill it back up.

let's fact check this a little bit. first and foremost we're not getting 65 billion barrels of oil from Venezuela. What the actual details of it is that a 25-year plan will be set up where a company that Trump Admin is investing and has the ability to drill into certain properties of Venezuela that can estimate a gain of 65 billion barrels of oil over the course of those years. Secondly now it is true that President Biden brought down the reserve substantially. But that has a catch also. During his presidency, Joe Biden released approximately 230 million barrels of crude oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to stabilize global markets and lower domestic gas prices, primarily following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. When his administration completed its formal replenishment strategy, the U.S. Department of Energy had put back 200 million barrels into the emergency reserve. Trump because eog the Iranian War has so far depleted the reserve of about 175 million to 180 million barrels with no refill on sight.
