Ancient Rome – The Heart of the Ancient World For centuries, Rome was the most powerful city in the ancient world. From a small settlement on the Tiber, it grew into the capital of a vast empire spanning Europe, North Africa, and the Near East. History & Power Traditionally founded in 753 BC, Rome became a Republic before expanding across the Mediterranean. In 27 BC, Augustus became the first emperor, beginning the Roman Empire. The Roman Forum At the heart of the city stood the Roman Forum, surrounded by temples, basilicas, monuments, and government buildings. It was the center of Roman political, religious, and social life. Gods & Religion Temples dedicated to Jupiter, Juno, Minerva, Mars, Venus, and many other gods filled the city. Religious ceremonies and festivals were deeply connected to everyday Roman life. Daily Life Rome was a city of enormous contrasts. Wealthy citizens lived in luxurious domus, while millions of ordinary people lived in crowded insulae. Streets were filled with merchants, craftsmen, soldiers, slaves, politicians, and travelers. Monuments & Entertainment The Colosseum, enormous baths, temples, aqueducts, and monumental forums demonstrated Rome's extraordinary wealth and engineering. Legacy Although the Western Roman Empire fell in the 5th century AD, Rome's influence survived through its law, architecture, engineering, language, and culture. Rome was more than a city. It was the heart of an empire that changed the world. #rome #italy #roman #colosseum #fyp #ancient

Dyonta Quarles Jr. was only 20 years old when his mother called 911 asking police for help. In the early morning hours of January 30, 2022, Dyonta’s mother told dispatchers she was having a dispute with her son and that he was preventing her from leaving an upstairs bedroom. She told dispatchers she couldn’t reach the front door and asked officers to enter the home. When Anne Arundel County officers arrived at the Crofton, Maryland home, they forced their way inside and found Dyonta and his mother upstairs. His mother was able to get out of the room, but when officers attempted to take Dyonta into custody, the situation quickly escalated. Body-camera footage shows Dyonta suddenly charging Officer Jonathan Ricci and tackling him. During the struggle, officers attempted to restrain Dyonta and deployed a stun gun, but it appeared to have little effect. Then, while officers were trying to handcuff him, Dyonta bit down on Officer Ricci’s fingers and wouldn’t let go. Ricci yelled that Dyonta was biting his finger and called for officers to shoot. He ultimately fired his weapon, fatally shooting Dyonta. Dyonta was unarmed, and his death became the subject of a federal lawsuit filed by his family. The Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office ultimately decided not to prosecute the officer after reviewing the independent investigation. His mother called police because she was asking for help for her son. What happened after officers entered that house would end with her son dead. #BeyondTheCase #TrueCrime #PoliceBodycam #PoliceShooting #TrueCrimeTok
