@artificialinsanitypod: Can you spot AI in creative writing? A study found that out of 424 participants, only 39% correctly identified which of two stories was AI-generated. AI Labs tune their models as folks start to complain about the overuse of certain writing trends among AI chatbots. For example, OpenAI fixed its em dash problem and stopped saying "delve" all the time. Last week, we covered the latest findings and ticks around AI creative writing. Can we just be honest and say we’d never know if she didn’t specify one was AI? Admit telling the difference is hard! Because that’s the actual problem.

Everything is so flipped now. All my life, I've been told to strive to sound like paragraph A. Now, you're telling me I need to sound more like paragraph B when sounding human would get me rejected by publishers. What the hell?

didn't even have to hear B to know it was A

AI also doesn’t have a sense of humor and would never pick to randomly name fish based on celebrities

first one is trying to sound poetic a little too hard.

i could tell the difference because the AI paragraph wasn't saying anything. it painted some pretty pictures, but to what end? in the second paragraph, the descriptions were unique, but more importantly they served a purpose and made the story feel more specific and directional

Description bogs down pacing. Paragraph A reminds me of sitting through a boring sermon.

This assumes people dont give the AI instructions when writing something. This assumes someone will genuinely tell an AI to do 100% of the writing for what ever it is they are making.

The depth of the figurative language is what stood out to me. In the first, its simple smilies and metaphors. It doesn't let the device stand on its own, it explains it immediately. Tying the "family" and the pond directly together. In the second, the reader has to imply that the problem in the pond is something greater than just the description being given.

I got it right too… but that first one doesn’t make sense, right? Like it’s someone writing an essay about something that they don’t understand.

i felt really good that I was able to tell the two apart and honestly this has great potential to be an exercise to push ppl to be more distinct with their writing by reading aloud what they wrote compared to ai

i felt nothing during the first one, the first line of the second paragraph i immediately knew it was human. ai can paint a pretty picture but it lacks the truth and emotion that only humans can give.

That’s the problem—you’re comparing raw AI output to human writing. 😂 If someone knows how to write, edits it, and actually uses AI as a tool instead of hitting “generate” once, it gets a lot harder to spot.
And these models keep improving while the AI witch hunt keeps getting louder. Pretty soon the only acceptable proof you wrote something yourself will be 4K footage of you typing it with a camera over your shoulder. 💀
